Budget & split

A trip budget planner that also splits the bill

A trip budget planner for the whole journey: plan what the trip should cost, log what it actually costs in any currency, and – on group trips – see who owes whom without a spreadsheet.

How it works

  1. Set a budget

Give the trip a planned budget by category – for example flights, stays, food and activities – in your home currency.

  2. Log as you go

Add expenses in the local currency as you spend. Wayfold converts them so you see the total against your plan.

  3. Settle up

On a group trip, record who paid and who shared. The Split tab shows who owes whom, and you can export it.

Plan the money with the rest of the trip

A trip budget planner works best when it lives next to the plan. In Wayfold, the budget sits on the trip hub with your countdown, packing progress and bookings, so “are we on track?” is one tap away.

Set a planned amount per category and log expenses as they happen. A donut chart shows planned against spent – for example $4,480 of $8,400 – with a breakdown by category, and a list of every expense below.

Any currency, in your home currency

Spending euros in Lisbon or pounds in London? Log each expense in the currency you paid in, and Wayfold converts it so your totals make sense at home. A currency toggle switches between your home currency and the local one. USD, GBP, EUR, CAD and AUD are built in, with conversion for any destination currency.

Logging works offline – note the coffee on the train and it syncs later.

Split travel expenses with your group (Pro)

Group trips get awkward when one person books the villa and another pays for every dinner. On Pro, each expense records who paid and how it’s shared, and the Split tab works out who owes whom across the trip. Export the result as CSV or to Splitwise to settle up.

Example: a bachelor or bachelorette weekend

Six friends, one rental house, a boat trip and a lot of shared rounds. Everyone logs what they pay; on the last morning the Split tab shows three simple transfers instead of a long thread of “I think I owe you…”. The same trip also uses shared packing lists with “who brings what”, so there’s exactly one speaker and one first-aid kit.

Sharing and splitting need everyone to sign in. Invite people by link or QR code as viewers or editors.

Family trips, too

On a family Disney trip, the budget is less about who owes whom and more about not being surprised. Plan for tickets, food and souvenirs separately, and you’ll see early if the parks are eating the food money. Two families sharing a vacation (holiday) rental? That’s where the split comes in.

Free vs Pro

  • Free: planned budget per category, expense logging, multi-currency conversion and the planned-vs-spent chart.
  • Pro: splitting expenses between group members, who owes whom, export, and group sharing.

Questions about the budget & split

How do I split travel expenses with friends?

Invite them to the trip, log each expense with who paid and who shared it, and open the Split tab to see who owes whom. You can export it as CSV or to Splitwise.

Can I log expenses in different currencies?

Yes. Log each expense in the currency you paid, and Wayfold converts it to your home currency. A toggle shows home or local currency.
