How to use the itinerary template

  1. Name the trip and set the dates. Add a title, the first day of the trip and the number of days; each day gets its date.
  2. Fill in each day. Write the morning, afternoon and evening plan, where you are staying, and any bookings or reminders.
  3. Print it or keep it here. Print a copy for the fridge or your bag. What you type is saved in this browser so you can come back.

Why use an itinerary template

A one-page plan per day is the simplest itinerary planner there is. It keeps the essentials in one place (what you are doing, where you are sleeping and which bookings you need) without the clutter of a spreadsheet. Printed, it works with no signal, a flat phone or a shared family plan on the hotel desk.

The template splits each day into morning, afternoon and evening. That is enough structure to group nearby sights and leave room to rest, without scheduling every hour. A good rule is one main activity per half-day, plus somewhere to eat nearby.

How to fill in a day

  1. Start with fixed times. Flights, trains, tours and timed tickets go in first, with their times and confirmation numbers.
  2. Group by area. Put sights that are close together on the same half-day to save travel time.
  3. Check opening days. Many museums close one day a week; move them so you don’t arrive at a locked door.
  4. Leave a gap. An empty evening or afternoon gives you room for weather, tired feet or a lucky find.
  5. Note where you sleep. Add the address and check-in time so it is to hand when you arrive.

A free travel itinerary template and travel planner template

This travel itinerary template is free to use and print: there is no download, no email and nothing to sign up for. It also works as a simple travel planner template for trips of up to 21 days, with a section per day for the morning, afternoon and evening, where you are staying and the bookings you need.

When you want more than paper, the Wayfold trip planner keeps the same day-by-day plan on your phone with a map and the weather, and its AI trip planner can draft the days for you from a one-line description of the trip.

From itinerary to packing list

What you plan decides what you pack: a hike needs boots and a daypack, a nice dinner needs one smart outfit, a boat trip needs a dry bag. Once the days are planned, turn them into a list with the packing list generator, and run through the travel checklist before you leave home.
