The carry-on check app that knows what’s in your bag

Wayfold’s carry-on check app feature works from your packing list: pick your airline and fare, and Wayfold compares the bag you’re packing with its cabin limits – then tells you what to move if you’re over.

How it works

  1. Choose the airline and fare

Pick your airline when you create the trip, then choose the fare on the carry-on screen. Wayfold shows the size and weight limits for that bag.

  2. Pack into the right bag

Items on your list belong to a personal item, carry-on (hand luggage) or checked bag. Wayfold estimates the weight of each cabin bag.

  3. Fix it before the airport

Green means fine, amber means close, red means over. If you’re over, Wayfold suggests the heaviest items to move to checked.

Why a carry-on size checker helps

Budget airlines live on bag fees. A Ryanair weekend on a basic fare includes one small bag that fits under the seat; anything bigger costs extra, often at the gate. Long-haul economy is more generous on size but some airlines set tight weight limits. Wayfold’s carry-on check puts the rule for your exact airline and fare next to the bag you’re packing.

You see a size diagram, a weight bar against the limit, and a status: green (OK), amber (near the limit) or red (over). If you’re over, Wayfold suggests moving the heaviest items – “Move 3 heavy items to checked?” – and the bar turns green when it fits.

19 cabin-bag rules across 15 airlines

The check covers easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Delta, United, American Airlines, Southwest, Spirit, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Air France, TAP Air Portugal and Emirates – including both the small under-seat bag and the larger cabin bag where an airline sets different rules by fare. A few examples:

Rules as checked in September 2026. Airlines change them often – confirm with the airline before you fly.
Airline and fareBagMax size (cm)Max weight

British Airways EconomyCabin bag56 × 45 × 2523 kg
United Basic EconomyPersonal item43 × 25 × 22None published
Delta Main CabinCabin bag56 × 35 × 23None published

Each rule in the app is dated (“checked September 2026”) and links to the airline’s own baggage page. For more detail, see the airline carry-on sizes pages.

How the weight estimate works

Wayfold adds up the items assigned to that bag, using typical weights for each item, and includes the empty bag itself. It’s an estimate to help you decide before you pack, not a scale. When an airline publishes no weight limit, Wayfold checks size only and says so.

Liquids

The carry-on screen also includes a liquids note: most airports still limit cabin liquids to containers of 100 ml (3.4 oz) in one clear 1-litre bag, while some airports with newer scanners allow more. Check your departure airport before you fly.

Works with your outfits and your list

Carry-on check pairs naturally with the outfit planner: plan a small capsule wardrobe, then see whether it fits the bag. Because the check reads your packing list directly, moving an item to checked or deleting it updates the result immediately.

Pro, offline, and what it doesn’t do

Carry-on check is part of Pro ($4.99/month or $29.99/year with a 7-day free trial; Lifetime $69.99 as a launch offer; UK prices £4.49, £26.99 and £64.99; prices may vary by region). The rules ship with the app and work offline.

Airlines change cabin-bag rules, and your fare, route or loyalty status can change what’s included. Wayfold shows the date each rule was checked; always verify with the airline before you fly.

Fifteen airlines with 19 cabin-bag rules, including easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Delta, United, American Airlines, Southwest, Spirit, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Air France, TAP Air Portugal and Emirates.
