What to pack for Barcelona: packing list by season

What to pack for Barcelona in every season: the clothes, shoes and day-bag essentials that matter, with the weather to expect and local tips.

Weather by season

Barcelona combines a big city with a long beach, so most trips mix architecture, markets and late dinners with a few hours by the sea.

It has a Mediterranean climate: hot, humid summers and mild winters. Light clothes work for much of the year, with a layer for evenings outside summer.

Typical weather by season

Spring Mar–May

Mild and pleasant, warming steadily; a layer is useful in the evening.

Summer Jun–Aug

Hot and humid, with busy beaches.

Autumn Sep–Nov

Warm in September; autumn brings some of the year’s heavier rain.

Winter Dec–Feb

Mild and often sunny, but cool in the evenings.

The long-term pattern, not a forecast. City and seafront. Evenings by the sea can be breezy. Always check the forecast before you pack — Wayfold does this for you.

Local tips

  1. 1

Keep swimwear for the beach and cover up when you walk into the city.

  2. 2

Busy streets and public transport are known for pickpockets; keep valuables zipped and in front of you.

  3. 3

Dinner starts late in Spain; tapas bars bridge the gap between lunch and dinner.

  4. 4

Book popular sights such as major Gaudí buildings ahead in busy months.
