What to pack for Las Vegas: packing list by season

What to pack for Las Vegas in every season: the clothes, shoes and day-bag essentials that matter, with the weather to expect and local tips.

Weather by season

Las Vegas sits in the desert: very hot, dry summers and mild winters with cold nights. Inside, casinos and hotels are strongly air-conditioned all year.

Many visitors combine the Strip with a day trip into the desert or to a national park, which needs different shoes and plenty of water.

Spring Mar–May

Warm, dry and sunny; a pleasant time for desert trips.

Summer Jun–Aug

Extremely hot and dry; avoid long walks in the middle of the day.

Local tips

  1. 1

Drink more water than usual; the dry air dehydrates you quickly.

  2. 2

Nightclubs and some restaurants have dress codes; check before you go.

  3. 3

Start desert hikes early and carry more water than you think you need.

  4. 4

Walking between resorts takes longer than maps suggest.
