Umrah means long days of walking in heat, and a few items that must be right from the start, such as ihram and unscented toiletries.

This list assumes ten days in hot weather with laundry available. It is a practical starting point; follow your group leader’s and scholars’ guidance on religious requirements.

Packing tips

  1. 1

Pack the ihram in your cabin bag if you plan to change before the miqat on the plane.

  2. 2

Unscented soap, shampoo and deodorant are used while in ihram.

  3. 3

Comfortable, broken-in sandals and blister plasters make a big difference.

  4. 4

Check the official Saudi visa and health requirements before you travel.
