Packing list
Packing list for a newborn
A packing list for a newborn’s first trip: diapers and wipes, feeding kit, outfits, car seat and stroller, plus what parents need for a short stay away.
A first trip with a newborn is usually short and close to home, often a car journey to see family, and it takes far more kit than the size of the traveller suggests.
This list is for three days away by car with two parents and a baby. It counts diapers (nappies) and outfits per day and keeps the feeding kit together.

How to use this list
Start a day or two before you leave and pack one category at a time, ticking items off as they go in the bag — your ticks are saved in this browser. Quantities follow the trip above: clothes scale with the number of days, with a little extra for spares. Travelling longer, in different weather or with more people? Open the list in Wayfold and it recalculates for your dates, the forecast and everyone travelling.
Packing tips
- 1
Pack more diapers and outfits than the maths says; newborns often need several changes a day.
- 2
Keep a changing kit, a spare outfit and feeding things within reach in the car, not in the trunk (boot).
- 3
Check the car seat is fitted correctly before you leave and that the stroller folds into the car.
- 4
Ask your hosts whether they have a crib (cot) or a safe place for the baby to sleep before you pack your own.
