What to pack for Indonesia

Indonesia is hot and humid all year, with a drier season and a wetter season whose timing varies between islands. Highland areas, including volcano treks, are much cooler, especially before sunrise.

That is the long-term pattern, not a forecast. Weather in any given week can be warmer, colder or wetter than usual, so check the forecast a few days before you leave — Wayfold does this automatically and adjusts the packing list for your actual dates.

Pack with Indonesia in mind

  • Light, quick-drying clothes and swimwear
  • A sarong — useful at the beach and required at many Balinese temples
  • A warm layer and proper shoes for early-morning volcano hikes
  • Insect repellent and reef-safe sunscreen

Dress code: Temples in Bali ask visitors to wear a sarong and sash. Dress more modestly outside tourist areas, as most of Indonesia is Muslim.
