How it works

  1. Open the food guide

Tap Food on the trip hub. Wayfold opens the guide for your destination country, with dishes, meal times, tipping and tap-water advice.

  2. Set each traveler’s diet

Add diet styles and allergies once. The guide marks which dishes fit everyone and warns about pork, nuts and other allergens.

  3. Eat well on the day

Find restaurants near a planned stop, add a meal to the plan, and show staff a card in their language when you order.

What the food guide covers

Wayfold includes a curated food guide for 30 countries popular with US and UK travelers, from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and the UK to Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Iceland, the United States and beyond. Each guide has:

  • 5–8 must-try dishes, each with a one-line description and flags for vegetarian-friendly, contains pork, contains alcohol and common allergens
  • Typical meal times, shown in your own clock format
  • The tipping norm and whether tap water is generally safe, varies, or bottled is best
  • How easy it is to find halal and vegetarian food
  • Up to six well-known local chains

Only widely documented, stable facts are included, and anything uncertain was left out. Each guide shows the date it was checked.

General guidance – check locally. Recipes vary between kitchens, so always ask about allergens.

Diet profiles and allergy cards

Give each traveler an optional diet – vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, halal or kosher – plus allergies: nuts (including peanuts), shellfish, gluten, dairy, egg, fish, sesame and soy, with a “severe” flag. The food guide then sorts dishes that fit everyone to the top and labels the rest: “Sam: contains pork”.

A card in the local language

The diet & allergy card is a full-screen card for each traveler, written in the destination’s language with English underneath, in large, high-contrast text. Curated phrases cover Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Greek, Turkish, Japanese, Thai and Arabic. Any phrase without a checked translation is shown in English with a note, rather than guessed. The card works offline.

Diet profiles reach your packing list too: Wayfold suggests an allergy card, allergy medication such as an EpiPen for severe allergies, allergy-safe snacks for children, or a halal snacks reminder.

Familiar chains and places to eat near your plans

Familiar chains nearby checks about twenty international chains – the burger, coffee and sandwich names travelers already know – within about 3 km (2 miles) of your destination and lists only the ones actually found, with the nearest location and distance. Useful with tired kids on day one.

Eat nearby works from any stop on your itinerary. Tap it on an activity and Wayfold lists restaurants and cafés within 1.5 km (about a mile), filtered by halal, vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free. “Add as meal” puts it on that day at breakfast, lunch or dinner time. Diet labels here come from place names, so double-check with the restaurant.

Somewhere not on the list?

For countries without a curated guide, you can create an AI food guide in the same format. It’s clearly labelled “AI-generated”, saved on your phone for offline use, and uses one of your AI generations only when a new guide has to be made – 3 a month on Free, unlimited on Pro. AI needs a free sign-in.

Free vs Pro, and offline

  • Free: the curated guides, familiar chains, eat nearby and diet & allergy cards.
  • Pro: unlimited AI food guides for anywhere else.
  • Offline: curated guides, saved AI guides and diet cards work offline. Familiar chains and eat nearby need internet.
